we all have funny faces.

whenever i'm feeling down or i have a day off and can't find anything to do i always watch funny face (musical film) with audrey hepburn, fred astaire, and kay thompson. (breakfast at tiffanys is for when i'm feeling a little holly golightly.)

well this was the case last night. i was at a birthday party and stuffed myself till i could no longer move. i came home full and with nothing to do so i watched funny face until i fell asleep.

this time around though i realized that i don't like when jo stockton (audrey hepburn) sings 'how long has this been going on?' the song is just so boring. for the first time i fast forwarded through the part. i couldn't take it and i felt bad for fast forwarding audrey hepburn but i just couldn't listen to the song. i also realized that i really like the 'think pink' number. the art direction of it is pretty awesome and so retro.

i also made a mental note to look up the actual photographer for the photographs used in the film. i learned that not only is Dick Avery's (Fred Astaire) character based on real life fashion photographer, Richard Avedon (for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue), but he also provided some of the photographs for 'Quality' magazine. including the famous stencil-like face print of jo used in the opening credits and the 'funny face' number.

it's a cute silly musical that should be given a chance. a lot of people get bored with it easily because there's singing and dancing and maybe they don't like that stuff. i think that i also like it because most of it takes place in 'Paris' and i like being reminded of Paris.
